A West Salem senior’s Senior Project will create a special scholarship fund.

Seniors at West Salem High School must complete a community minded project applying all of the skills they’ve learned. Dylynn Bayer’s project is bringing the community and region’s soccer enthusiasts together this Saturday.

“I have created a Glow Soccer Tournament, including 8 teams. Four of the teams are grades from West Salem High School, and then four of the teams are from surrounding schools.”

Funds raised through the Glow Soccer Tournament will create the Marley Tauscher Scholarship Fund.

“Four players at the tournament will win the scholarship that night.”

Bayer was best friends with Marley Tauscher, who would’ve also been a senior at West Salem this year. Tauscher was killed in a jet ski accident on the Mississippi River in June 2022. Marley’s passion was soccer, playing on both the Rush Wisconsin West and West Salem Girls Soccer Teams.

“Fifth Grade when her dad passed away, I noticed she really just needed someone to talk to. So, I was there for her ever since fifth grade. We would spend every second together that we had.”

Saturday’s Glow Soccer Tournament will be at the West Salem Soccer Fields, near the district’s Panther Den.

“The games will start at 7:15. And then the championship game will start at 8:00, where they will have glow sticks, glow body paint, anything they bring that glows. And then there will be glow soccer balls. Along with the tournament, there’ll also be concessions and a bake sale, and shirts that are for sale along with Marley bracelets.”

Bayer says all proceeds from concessions and bake sale will benefit the West Salem Girls Soccer Program. Additional donations towards the Marley Tauscher Scholarship Fund will also be accepted.
