(Milwaukee, WI) — Milwaukee Mayor Cavalier Johnson has submitted a proposed 2023 budget with tax increases and service cuts. Johnson is proposing approximately one-point-seven billion dollars for his first budget as mayor of Wisconsin’s largest city. Johnson said the combination of fees and taxes on a median valued home will increase by about 48 dollars and 60 cents, as police and fire services are cut. Johnson said the city is hamstrung because costs are climbing and revenue remains flat — suggesting the state’s shared revenue to the city needs to increase.
