The American Red Cross is urging people with all blood types to donate as the national blood supply remains under severe pressure. The Red Cross says just three additional donors at each blood drive could help stabilize supplies and ensure patients continue receiving lifesaving care.
The organization declared only its second blood crisis in history in late July. Although thousands of people have since donated, officials say the blood supply remains at a four-year summer low as families return to school and people wrap up summer vacations.
Anyone who is eligible to donate can make an appointment through the Red Cross Blood Donor App, the Red Cross website, or by calling 1-800-733-2767. Donors who give between August 1 and August 31 will receive a $20 Amazon gift card by email, according to the Red Cross.

La Crosse Blood Donation Center: 11:45 a.m. to 6:45 p.m., 1431 WI-16
Sparta, Barney Community Center: 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., 1000 E. Montgomery Street
Additional blood drives are scheduled throughout August and early September in La Crosse, Onalaska, Black River Falls, Tomah, Viroqua, Westby, Hillsboro and other area communities.
