Health officials are reporting two new confirmed cases of measles in Wisconsin, one in Iowa County and one in Lafayette County. The Wisconsin Department of Health Services says both cases were confirmed through testing at the Wisconsin State Laboratory of Hygiene.
The cases are the third and fourth confirmed measles cases in Wisconsin this year and are not connected to previously reported cases.
Officials believe both people were exposed in Wisconsin, raising concerns that additional, unidentified cases may be circulating in local communities. Health officials note that some people who become ill may not seek medical care or get tested, making it difficult to identify every case.
Residents are encouraged to be aware of measles symptoms and follow public health guidance, particularly if they may have been exposed.
