Bernice “Bea” J. Skroch, 96, of Independence, died on Sunday, September 10, 2023,
surrounded by her children at the Trempealeau County Health Care Center, rural Whitehall.
Bernice was born in rural Independence on July 9, 1927, to John and Frances (Miemietz) Klimek.
Bea learned the value of hard work at a young age. She worked at various jobs waitressing,
cooking, and serving school lunches, until working in housekeeping with the Trempealeau
County Health Care Center where she was employed until her retirement in her early 70’s.
Bernice was united in marriage on September 30, 1950, to Simon Robert “Bob” Skroch at S.S.
Peter and Paul Catholic Church. To this union, the couple had 5 children. Bernice loved to
decorate for, celebrate and entertain for all holidays, especially the Independence Ice Fishing
Contest. She loved to watch her children and grandchildren during their sporting events, but
also loved the Packers, Brewers and Badgers. Bernice was an avid cook and baker, loved to
socialize downtown, and volunteered each year at SSPP’s Fall Festival. Bernice was a member
of S.S. Peter and Paul Catholic Church where she served as a sacristant for many years. Her
spunk, hard work and dedication to her faith and family will be truly missed by her loved ones.
