Daniel M. Simonson, age 96 of Hixton, Wisconsin, went to work on God’s dairy farm in Heaven
on Monday, December 18 th , 2023.
Daniel was born on the farm that has been in the Simonson family for 100 years, north of Hixton,
Wisconsin, to John and Anna (Fenney) Simonson on Mother’s Day, May 8 th , 1927.
From 1945 to 1946 Daniel served in the military during World War II, where he spent time at
Fort Sheridan, Illinois, Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri and Camp Stoneman in California. During
this time, he gained expertise as a cook. Have you ever seen a man break 4 eggs into a frying pan
at once? It’s an impressive sight and something Daniel mastered without a single broken shell in
the pan!
In 1947, Daniel met Marion Lambrigtsen and they were married on August 6th 1949. They
celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary before Marion’s passing in June 2020.
Daniel was a dairy farmer all his life. He and Marion owned different farms in the Taylor,
Humbird, and Hixton areas while they raised 8 children. Daniel was a good steward of the land,
realizing that as a farmer, it was his job to carefully and responsibly manage the land, to ensure
the quality and abundance of each year’s crops. In 1986, Daniel was awarded the Outstanding
Farmer of the Year Award by the Black River Falls FFA Chapter.
For many years, Danny (as many people called him) was a member of the Sons of Norway. He
was always ready to lend a helping hand when needed, always there to teach the young, lessons
in life, and cared about the way you treated people. Along with his family and farming, Dan
loved Farmalls, Studebakers, German Shepherds, the Milwaukee Brewers, and the Green Bay
Packers (and not necessarily in that order!)
Daniel was preceded in death by his wife Marion, parents John and Anna Simonson and brothers
Arnold, Orville, Earl, and George and sister Dorothy.
Daniel is survived by his daughters, Christine (Ron) Sperle of Hatfield and Lisa Cash of West
Salem, sons, Daniel Gary (Julie) of Holmen, Bradley (Barbara) of Galesville, Eric (Toni) of
Chippewa Falls, John (Jan) of Marshfield, Michael (Peggy) of Amery and Bjorn (Teri) of River
Falls, WI. Daniel is also survived by many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
