The Wisconsin Department of Health Services has released its recommendations for flu, COVID-19, and RSV vaccinations as respiratory virus season approaches.
DHS recommends a flu vaccine every season for everyone six months and older, and an updated COVID-19 vaccine each fall for everyone six months and older, with added importance for people at higher risk of serious illness.
For RSV, DHS recommends a one-time vaccination for adults 75 and older, and for people over 50 who are at increased risk. RSV vaccination is also recommended during weeks 32 through 36 of pregnancy during the September through March season.
Wisconsin saw nearly 11,000 hospitalizations related to flu, RSV and COVID-19 complications last season, with most involving older adults.
Residents can check with their health care provider, local health department, pharmacy or community clinic for vaccination options.
