The Wisconsin DNR will hold a public meeting Thursday, October 15th, at 6 p.m. at the Vaughn Public Library in Ashland to discuss Lake Superior fisheries management and a proposed reduction in the lake trout quota.

The DNR is recommending a 22-percent reduction in Wisconsin’s lake trout allocation for management area WI-2. The reduction would be divided evenly between commercial and recreational fisheries.

Officials say increased sea lamprey activity and reduced lake trout reproduction have affected the population, and the quota reduction is intended to help protect the fishery and allow the population to recover.

The public will also have an opportunity to discuss other Lake Superior fisheries management topics with DNR staff.
