The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources has announced the recipients of the 2026 Invasive Species Action Awards. The awards, presented during Invasive Species Action Month by the Wisconsin Invasive Species Council, recognize outstanding efforts to prevent and control invasive species across the state.

Among this year’s honorees is DNR Wetland Invasive Plant Specialist Matthew Puz, recognized for his leadership in managing invasive plants in wetland ecosystems. Several volunteers were also honored, including Dick Wieboldt of the Upper Sugar River Watershed Association, Herb Sharpless of the Southern Kettle Moraine area, Tom Rogalski of Burnett County, and Terrie Pohjola of Langlade County.

Group awards went to the Green Bay Conservation Corps, Oconto County’s Land and Water Conservation Department, Marinette County invasive species leaders Sheri Denowski and Chuck Druckrey, and the Newport Wilderness Society Invasive Species Volunteers in Door County.

DNR officials say the award winners have made significant contributions to protecting Wisconsin’s natural resources, wildlife habitat, recreation opportunities, and local ecosystems from invasive species.
