The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources is investigating a manure runoff incident in Buffalo County near Waumandee. Officials say the runoff has impacted Danuser Creek, a trout stream that feeds into Waumandee Creek.
The issue was first reported April 19th, when an angler noticed dead trout and alerted a conservation warden. A DNR inspection confirmed the fish kill and traced it to manure washing off saturated farm fields into the stream.
The DNR says it’s continuing to monitor the situation while the farm works to stop the discharge. Officials are also reminding farmers to avoid spreading manure on saturated ground or ahead of heavy rain, and to check runoff risk forecasts before applying nutrients.
