The Jackson County Sheriff’s Office has been awarded state funding to support a new reentry program aimed at reducing overdose risk and repeat offenses.

Officials say the Wisconsin Department of Health Services approved the county’s application for a Reentry Navigator program on April 15th. The Jackson County Law Enforcement Committee met April 20th and voted to accept the funding and move forward with the position.

The grant will fund a temporary reentry navigator through 2027, who will help individuals leaving jail connect with treatment and recovery services. That includes substance use assessments, overdose prevention education, medication-assisted treatment, and referrals to community resources.

The program also aims to improve coordination between the jail and service providers, with goals of increasing treatment access, improving continuity of care, and enhancing public safety.

County officials say the next step is finalizing the job description and beginning the hiring process.
