The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources is reminding everyone to follow the Move Over Law — not just on roads, but also on waterways and trails. The law, first enacted in 2001, will be recognized on National Move Over Day, Saturday, October 18.
Drivers must move over or slow down for stopped emergency or roadside vehicles with flashing lights. The same rule applies on ATV trails and waterways — slow to 10 miles per hour within 100 feet of people or emergency vehicles, and operate at slow-no-wake speed near wardens on the water.
DNR officials say the goal is simple: keep both the public and emergency workers safe. Learn more about ATV, UTV, and boating safety at the Wisconsin DNR website.
