Fort McCoy is investing in major infrastructure improvements to support future military training and operations.
During a recent garrison town hall, Director of Public Works Liane Haun outlined several ongoing and planned construction projects.
A new four-story barracks building near the Fort McCoy Commissary and Exchange is nearing completion. Two additional officer-quarters buildings are under construction and expected to be completed next summer. Those buildings will provide 320 beds. Plans are also moving forward for two additional brigade headquarters buildings.
Other projects include replacing the Sparta-Fort McCoy Airport air traffic control tower, renovating the Community Center, replacing bridges, upgrading water and wastewater systems, and building new classrooms.
Fort McCoy is also considering a new training complex for the 98th Army Reserve Training and Evaluation Command. The proposed facility could include approximately 400 beds and is estimated to cost 147 million dollars.
Officials say the improvements are intended to replace aging infrastructure, expand capacity and ensure Fort McCoy can continue supporting the Army Reserve, National Guard and other military organizations.
