Authorities ordered some evacuations, for a short period of time, Friday after a wildfire broke out near Alma Center. The Alma Center Fire Department was called to the wildfire on County Highway F and Alma Center Road, in the Town of Alma, about 4:00. Once on scene, crews noticed the fire was creeping toward multiple residences. Mutual aid was requested from the Hixton Fire Department, which initiated evacuations of locations on Alma Center Road. Favorable terrain allowed firefighters to quickly knock down the blaze and prevent a major incident from unfolding. Agencies assisting on scene also included the Alma Center First Responders, Merrillan Fire Department, WI DNR and State Patrol, and the Jackson County Sheriff’s Department. Fire officials are thankful to Mooch’s Pizzeria for providing food for responders and to Goose Landing Cranberry Company, which allowed Blackhawks to use water from their ponds.

A wildfire in a forested area in La Crosse County was quickly contained by firefighters from the Bangor-Burns Fire Department. It happened Friday afternoon along County Highway DE.
