Governor Tony Evers has ordered flags in Jackson County to be flown at half-staff today in honor of retired firefighter Thomas Harkner of Millston. Harkner died September 9th at age 85. He served with the former Millston Volunteer Fire Department and was deeply involved in his community – serving on the Black River Falls School Board, the Black River Memorial Hospital Board, and the Millston Town Board. A lifelong outdoorsman and fourth-generation cranberry grower, Harkner is remembered as a devoted husband, father, and grandfather who cherished time with his family. Services for Harkner are today at the Black River Falls Evangelical Lutheran Church.
