Gary D. Mortenson passed away Friday March 31, 2023 at the age of 73 surrounded by family. Gary was
born November 13, 1949 in Black River Falls, WI, the son of Stanley and Deloris (Kvistad) Mortenson.  He
attended Taylor School. 
In his younger years Gary worked at many different jobs but his true passion was cleaning. He was self-
employed for 25 years, owing his own cleaning business before retiring due to health issues. After
retiring he enjoyed spending time with his kids and grandchildren.  He had a passion for collecting beer
mugs, coins, home interior, model cars, and Native American dolls. He also loved reading old western
books and watching western shows, or as he liked to call it, his “old cowboy” shows. He would give you
the last dollar in his pocket or the shirt off his back if you needed help.
He married Lee Ann Welsh on July 20, 1985, they had 5 children together and later divorced.
Gary will be greatly missed by his family: sons Dustin, Nathan Jarred, and Derrick; daughter Alicia; and 9
grandchildren: Bentley, Jaxon, Ryker, Brielle, Emerie, Brycen, Bronson, Eden, and Malachi. Also surviving
Gary are his siblings, Sharon (Jerry) Linsmeyer, Susan Daffinson, Dale (Kyong) Mortenson; as well as
numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and cherished friends.
Preceding Gary in death are his parents, Stanley and Deloris Mortenson; brother, Robert Mortenson;
brothers-in-laws George Simonson and Tom Daffinson; grandparents, several aunts, uncles, and cousins.
Gary donated his body to research and helping other people.
Services will be held Friday April 7, 2023 at the Jensen-Modjeski Funeral Home in Hixton, WI. Visitation
will be held from 9:30 to 11am, service beginning at 11am with lunch to follow. Burial will be at
Woodlawn Cemetery in Taylor, WI.
