Gregory George Ripp (69) lately of La Crosse, Wisconsin, was diagnosed with
pancreatic cancer and delivered from it and all earthly cares on May 10, 2026. Greg
was born on April 18, 1957 to Duane and Wanda (Hytry) Ripp.
Growing up on a dairy farm near Alma Center, Wisconsin with his five siblings, he
learned the hard work of being a good steward of the land and gained skills in growing
crops and gardens, carpentry, and fixing anything that was broken and in need of
repairs. The family also enjoyed many Sunday trips to area parks and relatives, family
celebrations, walking down to the creek which ran through the farm, and climbing tall
pine trees in the backyard. This came in handy as his future work included climbing
ladders to fight fires, and climbing tall cable towers.
Following high school graduation, Greg attended the Western Technical School in La
Crosse and after graduation worked at Gambles in Black River Falls as an electronics
repair person. He later moved to Lake Geneva, WI to work at a several cable
companies. There he worked his way up from installer and technician to project
engineer. He also joined the local volunteer fire department and obtained Emergency
Medical Technician certification which he put to good use as a First Responder. Many
Saturday evenings he could be found working an event at the Riviera.
Greg was known for his gentle spirit, cooperativeness and impish sense of humor. He
was so willing to lend a helping hand when needed. He kindly took in and cared for
some soon-to-be-homeless cats. Throughout all of his many health challenges, he was
not known to complain.
Greg enjoyed reading/learning about history and geography. Many times you would find
him at the home farm with an encyclopedia open and learning about various historical
events and how they related to current events. He loved to walk the Lake Path Walk
around Lake Geneva and often invited friends and family to join him. He was
fascinated with the history of Lake Geneva and how it grew into the city it is today.
He enjoyed visiting various places by motorcycle or car out West to Hill City, South
Dakota, Florida, Natchez, Mississippi, and David, Kentucky.
Greg is survived by his siblings, Mary Beth Ripp, Daniel (Lisa) Ripp, Maureen (William)
Spencer, Kevin Ripp, Andrea (Scott) Hudson, 5 nephews and 4 nieces, numerous grand
nieces and nephews and many aunts and uncles.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Duane and Wanda, infant brother Philip and
Grandparents.
Many thanks to his many care providers including Gundersen/Emplify Health System,
Benedictine Manor, Brookdale Assisted Living and St. Croix Hospice for their excellent
care and attention. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to your local volunteer
fire department, first responder unit, Immaculate Conception Church, or your favorite
