Herbert Victor Miller, formerly of Bangor, Wisconsin, was called to his heavenly home on July 14, 2026, at the Morrow Home in Sparta, Wisconsin, at the age of 97.

Herb was born April 4, 1929, to Victor and Viola (Wehrs) Miller in the Town of Burns. He was baptized and confirmed at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Bangor and attended Bangor High School, graduating in 1946. On October 12th, 1950 he was united in marriage to LaVonne “Bonnie” Thielker, at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Barre Mills. Together they raised their four children on a farm outside of Bangor. After selling his cows in 1975, Herb found full-time employment at Valley Farm Supply in La Crosse and later at Farm and Fleet in Onalaska, retiring in 1995. He also held various part-time jobs throughout the years, including driving school bus, selling feed, and delivering photos. Herb was a lifelong member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Bangor having served on the Church Council and various other committees.

Herb enjoyed anything sports related and could always be found in the bleachers or on the sidelines proudly cheering on his grandchildren. In later years, he kept up on local sports and closely followed the Packers, Badgers, and Brewers on television. Herb loved to study maps and always looked forward to road trips and getting together with family and friends.

Herb had a wonderful memory and if family or friends questioned a date or event, it was common to hear “Let’s just ask Herb”. In addition to that uncanny memory, Herb will always be remembered for his love of God and devotion to his family.

Herb is survived by his three sons, Randy (Susan) Miller, Duane “Zeke” Miller, and Todd Miller, his daughter, Pamela (Gary) Schomburg; 11 grandchildren, Jennifer (Jon) Kloehn, Sarah (Joshua) Riley, Matthew (Amanda) Miller, Jason (Kasey) Miller, Linzi Miller, Ashley (Frank) Elwill, Troy (Aimee) Schomburg, Maria (David) Richardson, Christopher (Lesley) Miller, Carrie (Brandon) Freitag, and Caleb (Lauren) Miller; 22 great grandchildren; brother-in-law, Gary (Robin) Thielker, many nieces, nephews, and friends.

Herb was preceded in death by his beloved wife, LaVonne “Bonnie”; two daughters-in-law, Shelly Miller and Mary Miller; parents, Victor and Viola Miller; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Wilbur and Helen Thielker; his brother, William Miller; sister-in-law, Janice Lash; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Betty and Ramon Stelloh, Joyce and LaVern (Pat) Horstman.

A victory celebration will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, July 22, 2026, at St. Paul’s Ev. Lutheran Church, 401 16th Ave. North, Bangor. Pastor Brock Groth will officiate. Burial will follow in the Burns Cemetery. A visitation will be held at the church from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the service.

The family requests, in lieu of flowers, memorials in honor of Herb and Bonnie be directed to St. Paul’s Lutheran Church or St. Paul’s Lutheran School.

The family wishes to extend their heartfelt thanks to the staff at Morrow Home for their kindness and compassionate care and to the Emplify Health Hospice team for end of life care and support. A special thank you to Pastor Brock Groth, Scott Rich, St. Paul’s Ladies Aid, and family and friends for their many comforting visits. You all helped to brighten his days in so many ways.
