The IRS is granting tax relief to individuals and businesses in Milwaukee, Washington, and Waukesha counties following severe storms and flooding that began August 9th.
Affected taxpayers now have until February 2nd, 2026, to file federal tax returns and make certain payments. That includes extended 2024 returns, quarterly estimated payments, and payroll and excise tax returns.
The IRS will automatically apply the relief, but taxpayers outside the declared disaster area who are affected can call 866-562-5227 to request it.
Residents may also claim disaster-related casualty losses on either their 2024 or 2025 returns and may qualify for additional retirement and penalty relief.
The IRS reminds anyone affected to note FEMA disaster declaration number 4892-DR on relevant forms.
