Philip E. Semke, age 77 of Melrose, passed away on Tuesday, September 9, 2025 at his
home.
He was born on Dec. 30, 1947 to Vernon and Lucille Semke. Phillip was also a foster child to
Tom and Selma Bagan of Black River Falls along with his younger brother Orville Semke.
Phillip attended St. Joseph’s Catholic Grade School, Black River Falls High School and WWTC.
Philip was a skilled wood craftsman and construction worker. He served in the US Army in
Vietnam and then joined the Navy reserve.
After working at numerous occupations and retiring from Fort McCoy, he continued his love
of working with wood and being with his close friends. Philip had a love for music and
together with some of his friends they formed various bands and styles of music.
Even before high school and throughout most of his life, music played a vital role in helping
him cope with the loss of loved ones and the tragedies of war.
Phillip was an advocate for the veterans of wars, taking some of his time and treasures from
his wood projects to help the veterans.
A memorial mass will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, October 4, 2025 at St. Joseph
Catholic Church / Guardian Angels Parish, 507 Main St., Black River Falls with Fr. Arivu
Mariappan officiating. Visitation will be at the church from 10:00 a.m. until time of service.
Inurnment will take place at the Morken Cemetery, Town of Springfield, Jackson County.
Military honors will take place at 12:30 p.m. at the American Legion Miles-Hagen Post 200,
421 WI-54, Black River Falls. A time for food and fellowship will be held after the honors.
