James M. Crawley passed away peacefully at the VA in Tomah, Wisconsin, on August 8, 2023.
He was born March 22, 1933 to Bernice and Berdine Crawley. He grew up in the town of Irving, and
graduated from Taylor High School in 1951. He worked at the Disco Creamery for a short time, then to
Monsos Standard Station and Christianson Trucking before entering the US Army and serving from 1953-
1955.
Upon returning from the Army, James worked at Oliver Construction in Oconomowoc for 20 years
before returning to Black River Falls to work for Hoffman Construction. He retired in 1995.
James enjoyed watching and playing baseball, hunting, fishing, and especially going to the casino! He
also enjoyed spending time with family and friends.
James is survived by a daughter, Roseann Crawley of Jackson, Wisconsin; daughter-in-law Shelly Crawley
of Black River Falls; granddaughter Melissa Crawley of Jackson; grandson Myles Crawley of Arizona;
great-granddaughters Aria and Ava Webb; sister Janet Gilbertson; several nieces and nephews; and his
dear friend Lorrain Calhoun among other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; son Thomas; brothers Ellwood and Vernon.
There will be a memorial service for James at Buswell Funeral Home on Thursday, August 17, 2023,
starting at 2pm. Visitation will be held from 1pm until the start of services. James will then receive
military honors and be laid to rest at Riverside Cemetery in Black River Falls.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Tomah VA Hospital, or Trout Run Methodist Church.
The family would like to send a special “thank you” to the Tomah VA for taking such wonderful care of
James.
