Janet Barbara Barney

Janet Barbara Barney, age 89, of Black River Falls, WI passed away at the Pine View Care Center on
January 14, 2023. Janet was born July 23, 1933 to Helmer and Miriam (Farrar) Roe in Wausau, WI.  
 
Janet attended Eau Claire Senior High School and after high school went to Wisconsin State College At
Eau Claire (University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire) in Eau Claire, Wisconsin where she majored in both
chemistry and calculus. She was active in her student church club and the Women’s Recreation
Association. While attending university she met her future husband, Patrick Barney. The two were
united in marriage on May 28, 1955, and had seven children, to whom Janet was a stay-at-home mom.
In 1968 the family moved to Humbird, WI.  
 
Janet was a life-long sports fan, especially the Brewers and Packers. She enjoyed playing Bridge, various
card games, and traveling with Prime-Time Club and Homespun Tours with her friends. She was active
with Homemakers, St. Anne’s Altar Society, American Legion Auxiliary, served as a volunteer at the
hospital gift shop, and as an election poll worker. Her greatest joy later in life was spent playing with her
grandchildren and great-grandchildren.  
 
She is survived by her children Terrence (Nancy) Barney, Kathleen (Jay) Eddy, Patrice (Jeff) Boucher,
Barbara Simonis, Daniel (Polly) Barney and Susan Iverson; daughter- in- law, Rosemary Barney;
grandchildren Erica, Kristy, Lindsay, Jessicah, Erin, Garrett, Justine, Trevor, Danielle, Walker, Angela,
Teren, Ethan, Kayla, Savanna, Ashley, Richele, Nathan, Riley, Jennifer, Ryan, Jordan, Jessica, Vincent,
KateLynn, and Eric; 30 great- grandchildren; brother Peter (Linda) Roe; and sister Judy (Richard) Gude;
along with many nieces, nephews, and friends.  
 
Janet was preceded in death by her husband of 39 years, Patrick; parents, Helmer and Miriam; and son,
Michael Barney.  
 
Funeral services for Janet will take place Friday, January 20, 2023 at the St. Joseph Catholic Parish at
11:00 a.m. Father Peter Kieffer will officiate. Friends and family are welcome to the visitation from
10:00 a.m. until time of service. There will also be a visitation on Thursday, January 19, 2023, at the St.
Joseph Catholic Parish from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m.
