John E. Dettinger, 66, of Tomah, died on Saturday, April 18, 2026, at his home. He was born to William and Clarice (Anderson) Dettinger on June 9, 1959, at St. Anne’s in Lacrosse, WI. John was a member of the Tomah Senior High School Graduating Class of 1977. After graduation he operated Mr. D’s for 15 years with his Dad. John worked in the automotive industry for many years, he worked as a mechanic, most recently managed Auto Value, in Mauston. John loved camping with Diane, especially at their seasonal site at Castle Rock Lake, he also enjoyed riding motorcycle and cheering for the Green Bay Packers, Milwaukee Brewers and Wisconsin Badgers, calling bingo, playing cards and bags. John will always be remembered for his willingness to help out anyone in need, being charming and fun, and always giving you a special smile or wink.

John is survived by his wife, Diane Pasewald of Tomah; children, Mollie (Troy) Braman of Tomah, John Dettinger of Denver, CO; grandchildren, Austin and Dalton Jewell, Peyton Ashcraft and Emma and Cody Dettinger, brother; James Dettinger, his mother-in-law, father-in-law, brother and sisters-in-law, as well as nieces and nephews.

John was preceded in death by his parents, a son Matthew, a daughter Jennifer, and a sister Debra.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, April 25, 2026, from 11:00 A.M. – 3:00 P.M. at the American Legion, 800 Wisconsin Ave., Tomah. Following the time at the American Legion, everyone is invited down to Kelsey’s Class Act to have a drink in John’s memory. Online condolences may be sent to http://www.sonnenburgfamilyfh.com.
