A new candidate is entering the race for sheriff in western Wisconsin.
Combat veteran Kristin Bills-Garcia has announced she’s running for Jackson County Sheriff in the 2026 election. Bills-Garcia is a former U.S. Army non-commissioned officer who served in Iraq and earned the Combat Action Badge.
She currently works within the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office, with experience in corrections and emergency communications, including inmate management and dispatch operations.
Bills-Garcia says her campaign will focus on improving staffing and retention, increasing transparency, strengthening community partnerships, and prioritizing officer wellness.
In her announcement, she emphasized the need for strong leadership and support for deputies, saying burnout and morale issues must be addressed to maintain effective public safety services.
Bills-Garcia plans to begin her campaign with a series of town halls and community listening sessions across Jackson County.
