Michael “Mike” Simplot of Black River Falls passed away unexpectedly at his home July 22, 2023.
Mike was born January 14, 1956 to Howard and Betty (Stenulson) Simplot of Black River Falls.
Mike was known to all as “Uncle Mike” everywhere he stopped. He was a true outdoorsman, involved in
so much. Bowhunting whitetail had to be his top priority in the fall; countless hours of scouting and
knowing what was going on in the deer woods. Second to the “big buck chase” was trapping. Beaver
trapping in the winter was his all-time favorite, but Mike was known for trapping every furbearing critter
in Wisconsin. Fishing was also important to Mike, especially spring walleye on the lower Black River.
Finally, he enjoyed riding through the river bottoms and on the east side of Jackson County, just to “take
a cruise”. Mike will be forever missed dearly by so many people.
Mike is survived by his sisters, Patsy of Black River Falls, Lynn of Black River Falls, and Sharon of Angelo;
brother Roy “Buzz” of Black River Falls; multiple nieces and nephews, including his close nephew Jon;
and also by his dear friends Sonny Gebhardt, Scott Bever, Gary Ewert, and godson Cole Schultz.
He was preceded in death by his mother and father, Betty and Howard Simplot; brother Blaine Simplot,
and the closest of his dear friends, Dan Zillmer and Larry Schultz.
A visitation and time of remembrance for Mike will be held Saturday, August 5th, from noon to 3pm at
the Buswell Funeral Home of Black River Falls, 106 S 2 nd St.
A Celebration of Life for Mike Simplot will be held at a later time at the First and Last Chance bar.
The Buswell Funeral Home is assisting with arrangements, 715-284-2231.
