Monroe County Health Department, in partnership with Safe Kids Coulee Region, proudly hosted our third annual Slide into Safety event for local third graders, equipping students with essential skills to stay safe at home, at school, and in the community.
Over 600 students from local school districts participated in the interactive program on May 12, 2026, at the Tomah Fairgrounds. The event featured 12 hands-on stations led by local experts, each focused on an essential safety topic. Students learned about firearm safety, first aid, farm safety, pedestrian safety, boat and lifejacket safety, water and pool safety, railroad safety, seatbelt safety, fire safety, medication safety, internet safety, and bike and helmet safety.
“Our goal is to help children build lifelong safety habits in a way that is fun, meaningful, and memorable,” said Eryn Leahy, Public Health Manager. “Third graders are at a perfect age to start practicing these skills, and these activities give them the confidence to make safe choices every day.”
