The American Red Cross is encouraging people to donate blood or platelets this fall, reminding residents that the need for blood is constant, even as the seasons change.
The Red Cross says a stable blood supply is especially important when severe weather or natural disasters occur, allowing blood products to be moved wherever they’re needed.
Several blood donation opportunities are scheduled throughout western Wisconsin this month.
In the local area, blood drives are scheduled today in La Crosse, Thursday in Onalaska, and throughout October in Black River Falls, Alma Center, Sparta, Tomah, Viroqua, Westby and other communities.
The Red Cross is offering incentives for donors. Those who give through October 18th can receive a 15-dollar e-gift card. Donors from October 19th through November 22nd can receive up to 20 dollars in gift cards, including a 10-dollar Amazon gift card and bonus Blood Donor Rewards points.
Appointments can be made through the Red Cross Blood Donor App, at RedCrossBlood.org, or by calling 1-800-RED-CROSS.
All blood types are needed.
