A report of a suspicious vehicle in Merrillan is under investigation by the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office. Authorities say a 14-year-old boy was walking along North Main Street Wednesday evening when a white van stopped nearby and its side door opened. The teen, feeling unsafe, ran home and later reported the incident.
Deputies reviewed surveillance video and determined the van was parked across the street. One man exited the vehicle holding what appeared to be a lunch box, but there was no interaction or attempt to contact the juvenile. The individuals did not follow him, and the van left the area shortly after.
Officials say, based on current information, there is no ongoing threat to the community. The investigation remains active, and authorities are reminding parents to talk with children about staying safe and reporting anything suspicious.
