The Tomah Health Community Foundation is helping Monroe County residents struggling to maintain housing, food, and basic needs.

Members of the foundation donated twenty-five hundred dollars to Families First of Monroe County Wednesday (April 22) to help fund the group’s Furniture and Household Goods Program that provides essential furniture and household items to families who have secured housing but lack the basics to create a safe and functional living environment.

Foundation vice president Jeremy Haldeman said the support fits the role of the organization to assist groups that address the health and wellness of residents throughout Monroe County.

The donation comes after funding from the Division of Energy, Housing and Community Resources was cut by fifteen-thousand dollars, creating a severe gap in Family First’s ability to serve families in need.

More than fifteen percent of Monroe County residents are reportedly living in poverty.

Families First was created in 1994 and provides critical services to twenty-thousand people each year, making it one of the largest emergency assistance programs in Wisconsin.
