(Manitowoc, WI) — Teachers in the Manitowoc Public School District are being told they can voice their opinions on controversial subjects – but not in the classroom. The school board made the policy change on a unanimous vote. Students will still engage in those discussions, but teachers will no longer be allowed to guide the students to a viewpoint that they support. District officials say the controversial issues are in four categories – politics, religion, social studies, and economics.
