William Treat Harkner, age 92 of Millston WI, died Wednesday August 12, 2020 at home surrounded by his loving family.
Treat was born August 27, 1927 in Merrill WI to William J. and Grace (Treat) Harkner. Upon graduating from high school Treat served his country by enlisting in the U.S. Navy towards the end of WWII. After his honorable discharge he soon fell in love and married Lavon Mae Tollefson who after some 40plus years of marriage died on March 23, 1997. Both, Treat and his brother owned and operated Harkner and Sons Cranberry Marsh after the passing of their father.
Treat was an outgoing man of the world that loved to strike up a good conversation with anyone, even perfect strangers. Treat was a lifetime Mason who enjoyed temple in Black River Falls. Most of the time he had a really good sense of humor. As a younger man, Treat loved playing with and collecting model trains. He was a family man and after Lavon passed away; Treat found love again and married Darlene Faye (Kinyon) Smothers on June 29, 2003. Together they would get to travel and see the world; Hawaii, most of Europe, New Zealand, Australia even the Pyramids of Egypt. Treat loved life and will be missed by all fortunate enough to have met him. God bless our memories of Treat.
Surviving Treat are his wife Darlene; his grandchildren Leigh (Edward) Kinyon, William Neal (Tara) Harkner, Ryan (Lisa) Harkner, Tyler (Sara) Harkner; great-grandchildren Stephanie (Jordan) Nortman, Thomas (Hannah) Kinyon, Logan Harkner, Adrienne Lanie Harkner, Ursula Harkner, Tyler Harkner, and Chloe Harkner and great-great grandson Camden Notman. Further surviving are his brother Thomas (Judie) Harkner; his sister Jean Overlien; his daughter-in-law Kathy Harkner; 3-stepchildren, 7-step grandchildren, 8-step great grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Treat was preceded in death by his parents and all of his children; Kathy Heath, William Craig Harkner and David John Harkner.
A graveside service celebrating Treats life will be Saturday August 22, 2020 at 11:00 A.M. at Woodlawn Cemetery in Taylor WI., with full Military Honors. In lieu of flowers or plants the family prefers that memorials should be directed to the Interfaith Volunteer Caregivers or to the Alzheimers’ Association of Wisconsin.
