The Wisconsin Department of Justice is reminding voters that voter intimidation and threats against election workers are against the law.

Wisconsin law prohibits threats, force, fraud or other intimidating behavior intended to interfere with someone’s right to vote. Examples include threatening voters or election officials, displaying firearms in an intimidating manner, following voters, or attempting to patrol voting lines while armed.

The DOJ says the Wisconsin State Intelligence Center will continue sharing information about potential election threats with law enforcement and election officials through Election Day.

The DOJ also notes that federal law generally prohibits federal officials from deploying military or armed personnel to active polling places, except in very limited circumstances.

Anyone who witnesses intimidation or threats should notify an election official and local law enforcement. If there is an immediate threat of violence, call 911.
