LA CROSSE, WI – May 18th, 2023
Governor Tony Evers has declared Thursday, May 18, 2023 Wisconsin School Garden
Day. Wisconsin is a leader in garden-based education. This day brings recognition to
the people and programs giving Wisconsin’s youth access to innovative, hands-on
educational opportunities.
Summit is one of nine area schools that partner with regional leader, GROW, to
provide students with high quality, hands-on garden-based learning experiences.
In 2022 GROW educators taught 655 garden lessons to students in the area. Students
engage in 3 spring and 3 fall lessons at each of the participating schools. This year’s lesson
theme is, “GROWing Healthy Minds, Bodies and Soil.”
GROW is a non-profit organization formed to connect youth to healthy food and nature
through hands-on garden-based experiences.
