The Wisconsin Department of Health Services is expanding its efforts to prevent suicide through new and extended partnerships.
DHS has extended its partnership with Aspirus Health and formed a new alliance with CALM America, which stands for Counseling on Access to Lethal Means.
The partnerships will provide suicide-prevention training for healthcare workers, mental health professionals and communities, with a focus on rural Wisconsin, where access to healthcare resources can be limited.
Aspirus will expand community training on QPR — Question, Persuade and Refer — which teaches people how to recognize warning signs, start conversations and connect someone with help.
DHS says men over age 25 living in rural communities have some of the highest suicide rates in the state.
