The Jackson County Sheriff’s Office has installed six new license plate recognition (LPR) cameras to help reduce and solve crime. The cameras, provided by public safety tech company Flock Safety, alert law enforcement in real time when they detect stolen vehicles, wanted suspects, or vehicles tied to AMBER, Green, or Silver Alerts.

These cameras capture license plates and vehicle details—not faces—and are used strictly for investigating serious crimes, not minor traffic or parking violations. Each search requires justification, and data is not shared with third parties.

Sheriff Duane Waldera says the move reflects the department’s commitment to using modern, cost-effective tools to enhance public safety. Flock Safety technology is used in over 5,000 communities nationwide and is credited with helping reduce crime by up to 70% in some areas.
