Norman Daniel “Hųk Nąą Jexį” Snake, Sr., age 76, passed away on February 3, 2023 at Gundersen Health
System in La Crosse, Wisconsin. He was born in Black River Falls on March 11, 1946, to Reuben Harold
and Anna (Winneshiek) Snake.
After graduating high school Norman enlisted in the Navy, then came back home and worked numerous
jobs with the Ho-Chunk Nation.
Norman had a big personality and a love for people, open and accepting of everyone. Known for his
sense of humor, he was funny and had a way of greeting each and every one. He loved playing bingo and
playing in the casino. He also loved to travel.
He is survived by his brothers, Roger Dean Snake, Terrence Lee Snake, Ralph Leland Snake; sister Lita
Jean Snake; his children Tricia Snake-Custodio, Marlin Snake, Karena Snake-Custodio; his grandchildren
Marissa Stabler, Michaela Custodio, Alejandro Rodriguez, Miguel Custodio, Jr., Halie Marg-Snake; and his
great-grandchildren Taylan, Benson, Xavier, Anevay, and Eliyanah.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his son Norman D. Snake, Jr.; his grandson Darus T. Stabler;
and his siblings John Snake, Richard Snake, Marlin Snake, Sadie Wesho-Snake, Martin Littlewolf, Jr.
Funeral services for Norman will be held Monday, February 6 2023 at the Ho-Chunk Nation District 1
Community Center, N7261 Warrior Ave, beginning at noon. A visitation will be held at the Buswell
Funeral Home of Black River Falls on Sunday, February 5, from noon until 3pm, and Monday at the
Community Center from 10am until the start of services.
The Buswell Funeral Home of Black River Falls is assisting with arrangements.
